Something I Heard

New teachers in new class rooms and new pupils everywhere, back to school after the summer holidays can be confusing. But for one headteacher returning to his office after the break, things took a particularly unexpected turn.

Ivor Chalkface, Headteacher of Bogwarts Academy, opened the door to his office on the first day of term to find a little old lady sitting in a chair knitting. When questioned the lady explained she had been told by her grandson Mikey Cheek, that she needed to come and speak to the Head.

Mr Chalkface could not think of a reason why Micky would suggest such a thing. The teenager was sent for, to explain himself. When questioned Mikey provided the answer that has kept Mr Chalkface smiling ever since.

“Well sir, I was doing my homework and listening to the news like Mrs Bookend, our English teacher, told us. There was this woman called May who was talking about the new schools they are planning,” Mikey went on.
“You keep telling us how important Maths is Sir, and I know Nana hasn’t got any qualifications.”

Mr Chalkface was still confused until Mikey explained.

“Sir, I though you could help her sign up to a Grandma School”

  1. The young can be so wise. We should listen to them more!
